Discussion Courses

Our discussion courses were created by our founding sister organization: Northwest Earth Institute (NWEI).  Our courses follow their content and use the books and materials created by NWEI. These courses can easily be offered in your workplace, faith center or home.

Read our Discussion Course FAQ for more information about how these courses work.  Below is a list of the topics and a brief summary of each.  Visit the NWEI website for more complete course details, including content and authors within each chapter.

  1. Voluntary Simplicity - a seven-session course, which addresses the distractions of modern society that keep us from caring for ourselves, our relationships, and our environment.
     
  2. Global Warming: Changing CO2ursea four-session course exploring the history and science of global warming, personal values and habits as they relate to climate change, and personal actions to curb the effects of global warming. 
     
  3. Exploring Deep Ecology  - an eight-session course addressing core values and how they affect the way we view and treat the Earth.
     
  4. Discovering a Sense of Place - a seven-session course focused on what it might mean to know and protect our place from a bioregional perspective.
     
  5. Choices for Sustainable Living -   a seven-session course exploring the meaning of sustainable living and the ties between lifestyle choices and their impact on the earth.
     
  6. Globalization and Its Critics - an eight-session course exploring how global trade is affecting the environment, local economies, and social and cultural customs throughout the world.
     
  7. Healthy Children - Healthy Planet - a seven-session course addressing how the pervasive effects of advertising, media, and our consumer culture can influence a child's view of the world.
